Studio Notes & Upcoming Events

“Tell me,
what is it you plan to do
with your one
wild and precious life?”
― Mary Oliver

It’s been a while since I posted. After the Monotype of the Day project ended I was brimming with ideas. I was thrilled to have more space and time to work on new projects. However, even though I filled sketch books ideas, I had no energy to bring them into the physical. I was like a balloon slowly emptying of air. It took time for energy of the monotype project to leave and then time for me to refill so I could move forward. I know this is the way of things. Summer is followed by winter, winter by spring. I thought I could somehow game the system and jump right back in (even tough I know better!), but you can’t fight the cyclical nature of the world. And in truth, i don’t really want to. My initial ideas are growing and gestating in new and interesting ways. I’m excited for when their time comes to see how they have transformed.

In the meantime, a lot of other work as been happening the studio:

  • I got a new printing press! I can’t wait to get started using it.

  • My Monotype of the Day book is moving forward. I have the initial design, I’ve narrowed it down to two publishers, narrowed down the list of featured posts (not an easy task), and I’m working on getting the permissions for the poems. It’s been a lot of work, but I’m really excited and it’s shaping up well!

  • I’m well along on my second animation. It’s been a huge learning curve but fun! It’s based on Monotype of the day #857, reflection to the left

  • I’ve still been making monotypes but it feels good to do so in a less public way for a bit. Although I miss interacting with you all, I know that time will come again.

Besides that, I’m prepping for some exciting upcoming events. Mark your calendars! I’d love to see you and catch up at the events listed below!
